Most people hate deadlines. The feeling of “having to get something done” at a specified time can create anxiety. But, perhaps that is not always a bad thing. Perhaps we need those deadlines to grow. Growth makes us happy. You probably heard the saying, “A goal is a dream with a deadline.” But why are deadlines so important to the art of goal setting?
Without a deadline, there is not true goal, just a fantasy. Nothing wrong with fantasies, but why live exclusively in a fantasy when what you’re dreaming could easily be a reality? Deadlines do that. They inject power and reality into the fantasy. They wake up the mind. They put the vision into a real life. No kidding! Time frames bring it all down to earth. This earth.
As Nathaniel Branden says, “This earth is the distant star we must find a way to reach”.
