The way you thought 5 years ago is your baggage today. Think how much has changed over the past 5 years. Today’s modern economy is not about working hard anymore because everyone works hard. Today’s competitive advantage is in thinking expansively, connecting with the right people and taking advantage of opportunities. Your job is to be a Person of Influence.

Your factory costs almost nothing now. Your factory is your laptop, phone, website and knowledge.  Your business has been broken down into niches. Those who are generalists are paid the least. Those Advisors who have specialized are among the highest paid Advisors. My message today is to go even smaller. Your sweet spot is to develop a micro-niche. Let me give you an example of this trend.

Today I received 5 Cabela’s magazines. The titles were as follows; Fall Great Outdoor Days, Garden Harvest, Shooting Bench, Camp and Pet Corner. This trend is just beginning and will separate you if you are willing to stake your claim. Your niche is as valuable as owning land.

The first step is to figure out what you do or what business you are in? Your story is much more valuable than you think. It’s your history and many times we can’t see its value but trust me, it is a mountain of gold. Next, you need to tell as many people as you can exactly what you do. Your niche! You have all the products you need. It’s the niche and your passion that will separate you from the rest.

All that you need in your business or in your life will be a function of your resourcefulness rather than whether the resources are available. The three biggest factors that determine your resourcefulness are: The questions you ask, the people you know and your willingness to get out of your comfort zone.

Seth Godin sums this concept up so well as he states, “Finding new ways, more clever ways to interrupt people doesn’t work. It’s the person who knows how to create an idea that spreads that wins today”.
